‘Happy’ to Set the Table

July 20th, 2012

I have not blogged in forever…shame on me…I simply don’t make the time for it that I should.  I’m constantly thinking of things I might want to blog about, but I just never sit down and write!  Summer is a particularly hard season, as we are busy having warm-weather adventures and are outside as much as possible!

Still, I made something this week that I thought might just be helpful to others with small kiddos at home.  One of Boo’s chores is to help set the table for dinner.  Since she is only 3 years old (and rather impatient to get back to her toys), things usually look out of place and askew.  At least she is beginning to understand the concept of contributing to our family, as well as learning important skills like how to properly set a table.

I was trying to think of ways to help her with this and found myself creating ‘Happy’, my helpful placemat, below.  I happened to have lots of fresh fruits and veggies available, so I set a proper place setting (for a casual family meal, of course), snapped photos, printed them up, and laminated the sheets to create helpful placemats!  ’Happy’ isn’t perfect, but he serves the purpose of helping her properly position forks, knives, spoons, napkins, cups, etc. – all while (hopefully!) making her smile with his crazy hair-do and grin!

Feel free to print and laminate ‘Happy’ for your table, if you think he would help your kiddos learn how to set the table too!  Or, perhaps, he might serve as another way of helping them enjoy eating their fruits and veggies!  (Click on title “HappyPlacemat” to download the PDF)

Guess I should print this off for your father – Boo’s PopPop. How the table is set really holds no meaning for him. Is there good food on the table to eat? Well then – all is well with the table and the world.

This is really cute! And I can only presume that Boo likes this “Happy” fellow. I’m sure your table is looking amazing now! Good job, Mommy and Boo Bear!
